In Part I and II of Got Bad BackLinks? Force Google to Ignore Them, we discussed two prominent reasons why some site owners need a tool to disavow backlinks. Despite the fact that many argue this is only going to help people who engage in questionable tactics, the truth is that many innocent webmasters and small site owners are hurt each year by links that are out of their control. The following is the third biggest reason why this potential tool is desperately needed.

Mom-and-Pop websites, small businesses and personal blogs often hire outside help to get their sites at the top position of the SERPs. We've all heard horror stories and many of us have had this happen to one or more of our sites. You hire some SEO guy without really understanding the industry, and he goes about doing his thing and rapidly gets you to the top of the results pages for your keywords. You make a ton of money and traffic streams in - for a while. Then one day your site is dropped from rankings and you've no idea why. If you're like most people, you don't even have access to Webmaster Tools, so you probably won't get the warning message if Google sends you one because your rogue SEO guy will just delete it.

But let's say you wise up to this turd's shenanigans and fire him, then hire someone you trust who shows you the problem. You can try to clean up all those links manually while your competition skyrockets ahead of you, and then you can send your site in for a manual reconsideration request - but let's face it: we know that the chances of success with this strategy are slim. So if there was an option to quickly undo the damage your rogue SEO guy did with a few clicks, most people would flock to have such an opportunity - especially considering that so many site owners are innocent in this regard.

The rumors about this tool are still just that - rumors - and may never become reality. 1.) Attempt to manually have the links removed
2.) Build up your link profile to put those old links in the dust

Option number 1 requires a significant investment of time, money and resources. You'll need to identify all of the links that might be causing a problem, then contact the sites where those links are found and request that they be removed - that is, if you can find any way to contact them at all.

Option number 2 also requires a significant investment on your part, including building new links, creating new content, syndicating that content, improving conversion points and many other steps that might be required to get you back on top.
