What is HubSpot & Why Should I Use it?

Try this experiment: Google any topic related to inbound marketing and you'll be presented with findings published by HubSpot, without a doubt.

Did it work? HubSpot has essentially put inbound marketing on people's radars by being one of the first and more successful inbound marketing tools that put a ton of time towards publishing helpful information and resources for marketers.

Today, in an era where most marketers know what inbound is and close to 50,000 businesses use HubSpot, I still get asked questions about what is HubSpot and what's all the hype about? So let's dive in.

What is HubSpot?

HubSpot is an inbound marketing software platform that allows you to brainstorm, create, and optimize campaigns and sales efforts towards generating more traffic, converting more leads, and closing more customers.

Founded in 2006, it was developed based on the notion of the "buyer's journey" which states that customers go through three distinct phases leading up to a purchase.


In this stage, the customer has recognized that they have a problem or unfulfilled need.

Your marketing messaging should be unbranded, non-product-focused, and aim to help the buyer solve their problem. Use social media and blogs.

  5. Enterprise: $2,400/month (billed annually)

Like most software tools, the larger the package you sign up for, the more features are available.

Which HubSpot Package is Right for me?

The free version will help give you a sense of the interface, but that's about it. Most features are locked out so it's tricky to test them out. I recommend starting with the Basic package which gives you access to the majority of the tools mentioned above.

I've been using the platform for almost 4 years and can confidently say that I love HubSpot. When compared to other marketing automation tools like Pardot (which starts at $1,000/month) or Marketo (which starts at $1,195/month), HubSpot clocks in at a lower price point with all the bells and whistles you need.

Free CRM

You read that correctly. HubSpot's CRM is free and it doesn't skimp on the features you need to manage and build relationships with your leads.

If you're already using another CRM, HubSpot's free CRM might just be your primary reason to switch. Your company could save tens of thousands of dollars a year alone by nixing your CRM.

Integration Possibilities

While HubSpot is extremely comprehensive, chances are, you'll need other tools to help drive your marketing efforts. And in most cases, you can integrate the tool with HubSpot either directly through integration or a Zap.
