Mobile email marketing can be a challenge, especially if you don’t know the first thing about how your messages should be formatted.
On the surface, your goal is to do nothing more than increase your open rate. While this is a great place to start, imagine this: you have a high open rate, but your recipients are unable to read what you are sending them.
With mobile email, you need to make sure your messages are optimized for smaller screens. Remember, people are going to be reading your messages on smartphones as opposed to their laptop or desktop. If your message is not properly formatted, it will be difficult (if not impossible) to read.
In a recent study by Knotice.com, it was reported that mobile opens accounted for more than 35 percent of all email opens last year. Imagine that. Almost one in three emails that were opened were done so on a mobile device.
At this point, you probably realize the importance of proper email formatting. As long as your message can be read on any device, from a computer to a tablet to a smartphone, you don’t have anything to worry about. Instead, you can continue to focus on the message itself as well as the open rate.
No matter if you are new to mobile email marketing or have been sending messages for a few years, the following three tips can come in handy:
1. Short and sweet is the way to go. In today’s day and age, people are not interested in long emails. This is particularly true when reading on a mobile device. Get to the point as soon as possible, ensuring that not only is your message opened but that it is also read.
2. Font size is important. For mobile email marketing, a font size of 14 will work best. If you go smaller, it may be changed automatically which will throw the formatting of your message out of whack.
3. Send yourself the message first. Before you send a message to your list, you should sent it to yourself. What do you see? What do you like? What do you need to change? If you catch just one mistake, you will be glad that you took this step.
There is no worse feeling than sending a message, just to find later on that it was littered with mistakes.
If your formatting is solid, you can focus 100 percent of your efforts on the open rate and conversion. Subsequently, you have a better chance of benefiting from your mobile email marketing efforts.
