Create Content Your Audience Will Love

By Chris Vendilli 2 Minute Read

It's said that two million blogs are published online every day. That's a lot of content! This leaves many business owners and marketing professionals wondering what you can do to get your content noticed by readers. Using best practices can help ensure that your online content will be read by the right people.

Personalize Your Content

Personalizing your content by acknowledging your readers, or by revealing details that are specific to your business, can make the experience of reading your blog more rewarding and exciting. There are a variety of ways that you can personalize your content.

  • Go behind the scenes. Post pictures of your business in "behind the scenes" fashion, revealing parts of your business that customers or clients do not normally see. For example, if you own a beloved local restaurant, publish pictures of the kitchen and kitchen staff to show customers who is responsible for the delicious food you cook.
  • Quote readers. Quoting your regular readers can show that you actually pay attention to what your readers have to say.
  • Let readers contribute. Do you have a knowledgeable and engaged audience? Invite some of your most loyal readers to write one or two posts as guest editors.

Find A Market Where You Can Dominate

Choosing a very specific niche market reduces the competition and increases the chances that your audience will find your content on the Internet. For example, the real estate market is flooded with blog posts about curb appeal and staging, but blog posts about selling or buying a home in a specific part of Pittsburgh will have much less competition and will, therefore, be easier for your readers to find.

Engage With Readers

Readers like knowing that blog writers they read are paying attention to them. There are many ways to engage with readers, including:

  • Read the comments. An engaging blog will encourage readers to leave comments. Reading those comments and responding to their questions can show readers that you care about what they have to say.
  • Administer surveys. Surveys can help you determine your readers' priorities. Give your readers regular surveys so that you can stay tuned in to your readers needs, thoughts and opinions.
  • Look for patterns. Are your readers constantly asking the same questions over and over? If so, addressing these questions in your blog can engage readers and meet their needs.

Share Content

Sharing your content ensures that your audience will find your posts. Create links to your blog on your social media pages, send emails to your readers to announce new posts and make references to old posts on your blog.

Include Original Photographs or Video

Stock photos are easily identifiable because they look very generic. When customers see stock photos on your website, they might feel less engaged simply because they can tell that the pictures they see are not authentic. Taking and publishing original videos can help make your website look more authentic and engaging to your customers.
